Hindus wake up early for Ponggal

GEORGE TOWN: At sunrise, many Hindus gathered at the entrance of their homes with milk-filled earthen pots placed over a small wooden fire pit – to carry out a ritual to mark Ponggal, the Tamil harvest festival.

The boiling of milk until it overflows is done in thanksgiving to God for a bountiful harvest and healthy crops.
