PETALING JAYA: Sukarelawan Malaysia, a non-governmental organisation, has called for the set up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate the root cause of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim's death.
Without naming anyone, its president Isham Jalil also joined the call for the relevant ministers to resign as he said Adib's death "is in their hands".
He said the four men involved in an attack on Muhammad Adib during a fracas at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya last month, as well as those who ignited the riots through seditious statements, must be held responsible.
"The state and federal government leaders also have to be responsible for the case of the temple relocation in the USJ as it is under their jurisdiction," he said.
"In order to ensure that this does not happen again, we have to bring all those responsible to the court for maximum action," he added.
Isham said the murder of Muhammad Adib, whom he called a hero, cannot be taken lightly or forgotten.
"If we treat this lightly, we are also accepting that we are a brutal and uncivilised society," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 18).
Earlier, Umno Youth had called for the Attorney General to charge Ministers P. Waytha Moorthy, M. Kulasegaran, Gobind Singh Deo and Dr Xavier Jayakumar, as well as Selangor executive councillor V. Ganabatirau, over the fireman's death.
Its chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the five leaders should be charged under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insults with intent to disrupt the peace.
Muhammad Adib, 24, passed away at 9.41pm at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Monday (Dec 17).
His remains were brought back to his hometown in Kampung Tebengau, Kedah, for the funeral on Tuesday (Dec 18).
