MELAKA: A state exco member here is giving away 2019 "horse racing" calendars to readers of The Star.

State Health and Anti-Drugs committee chairman Low Chee Leong, who made a visit to the Star Media Group’s bureau office at Jalan Hang Tuah here on Wednesday (Dec 12), handed over 50 calendars.

“I am visiting the bureau office (as a state government official) after almost 15 years; previously I use to come as a social volunteer and work with the journalists on issues affecting the locals.

"I will pass out more of these calendars if needed to cover more readers,” he said.

Low hopes that The Star will work closely with the state government to bring in more foreign direct investments (FDIs) and also promote health tourism.

He said Melaka is focusing on organising more medical tourism programmes to woo foreigners to opt for specialist treatments at four private hospitals here.

Low noted Melaka is among the top three states in the country that are preferred by medical tourists, especially Indonesians, to get their healthcare and personal care services.

“The state government realises that English media is crucial in wooing the desired number of medical tourists to the state," he said.

“Hence, I have proposed to the state government to hold programmes with The Star next year to make Melaka the number one medical tourist destination in Malaysia.”
