KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Sabah hopes to work with the government to set up committees at the state and district levels, to combat graft.
Sabah MACC director Datuk Sazali Salbi said he will be having a meeting with state secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Hashim Paijan on Tuesday (Dec 11) to discuss the matter.
"We will discuss about setting up a state-level anti-corruption committee. From that committee, we will branch out to form smaller committees for each district in Sabah," he told reporters at the launch of a walkabout held in conjunction with International Anti-Corruption Day on Sunday (Dec 9).
Sazali said the committee will be tentatively led by the state secretary, with its members comprising government department heads, permanent secretaries of various ministries and district officers.
On a separate matter, Sazali said the walkabout programme is participated by 400 students from institutes of higher learning around Kota Kinabalu.
The students will be going around the city to engage the community and raise awareness on the importance of working together with MACC to fight corruption.
The programme was launched by state Law and Native Affairs Minister Datuk Aidi Mokhtar.
This is MACC's fifth year in launching a nationwide anti-corruption campaign.
