Fishing boat with RM300,000 worth of contraband cigarettes detained off Johor coast

ISKANDAR PUTERI: An attempt to smuggle 2,500 cigarette boxes and kretek estimated to be worth RM300,000 into the state was foiled by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency following the detention of a fishing boat off the southwest coast of Johor on Monday(Oct 17) during Ops Jaksa.

In the 2.13am incident, MMEA Southern Region director Datuk Abu Bakar Idris said a patrol boat was dispatched to an area some 2.29 nautical miles north of Kukup Island, Pontian after the Tanjung Piai Sea Monitoring Centre detected suspicious fishing boats entering the country's waters.
