KUALA LUMPUR: The new Malaysia should not be confrontational towards China, and should instead focus on Beijing's productive projects in Malaysia, says Prof Dr Edmund Terence Gomez of University of Malaya.
"There are many dynamic and productive projects invested by China's public and private sector.
"The problem with the new government is that there is too much focus on debt-based projects such as the ECRL.
"Malaysia towards China seems to be more confrontational. This has to be sorted out quickly," said Prof Gomez at the China Conference on Wednesday.
He added that investments flow into Malysia could be affected if the approach towards China was not sorted out.
Showing sectors in which there were productive projects from China that had helped the local economy, the panel speaker urged the government of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to give more emphasis on these.
