Lorry burst into flames after skidding on second Penang bridge

GEORGE TOWN: A lorry burst into flames after skidding on the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge here but luckily the driver and his partner escaped with minor injuries.

The fiery incident involved a lorry weighing around three tonnes at about 7.47am on Wednesday (Sept 19), according to Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd corporate communications deputy senior manager Azizi Azizan.

Azizi said the accident occurred at Km10.5 heading towards Batu Kawan on the mainland.

He said Fire and Rescue Services personnel who arrived at the scene managed to put out the fire in a few minutes.

“We haven’t ascertained the cause of the accident, as the Fire Services Forensic Unit is presently investigating the incident,” he added.

Videos of the lorry on its side and in flames have gone viral, with many posting them on social media.
