KUALA LUMPUR: A gold-coloured necklace with Islamic religious writing was found among the dismembered body parts that were stuffed in two luggage bags found along Sungai Gombak on Thursday (July 5), said City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim.
He said that this could point to the victim being a Muslim but did not want to rule out anything yet.
"We have been able to determine the victim's gender who is a woman, either in her 30s or 40s.
"However, we do not know her nationality or who she is," he said to a press conference at city police headquarters on Friday (July 6).
Comm Mazlan said the body parts were wrapped in three layers of plastic and bed sheets.
"The cause of death is a wound to the neck, most likely by a heavy and sharp weapon like a machete that was then used to hack the body into pieces.
"The killer must have realised the body was too big for a single bag so he must have chopped the body up to fit it into two bags," he said.
It is believed that one bag contained a torso while the other contained a head, arms and legs.
The murder is believed to have been committed about 24 to 60 hours earlier elsewhere before being dumped by the river.
Police also found 11 and 14 pieces of clothing inside the two bags, which were located about 20.6m apart, respectively.
