Bestinet Sdn Bhd has denied any involvement with syndicates smuggling in more than 100,000 workers from Bangladesh, an issue reported in The Star on June 22.

"We would like to clarify that Bestinet is not a recruitment agency nor is it involved in the operation of the foreign worker recruitment process in Malaysia or labour source countries.

Bestinet also clarified that not all of the RM305 fee collected for each Bangladeshi worker under the Foreign Workers Registration System (SPPA) goes into the company's coffers.

The amount collected is used to cover charges for three different service providers (including itself) as mutually agreed upon by the Malaysian and Bangladeshi governments, explained a spokesman for the company in a statement.

He said the company handling the SPPA receives RM100, the immigration security clearance service provider gets RM105 and Bestinet itself collects RM100 for bio-medical fees.

The statement added that the company just provides solutions for foreign workers, saying, "Bestinet does not operate SPPA but (just) provides the system and platform to the company that operates it."
