JOHOR BARU: Police have detained nine suspects, including a woman, for suspected involvement in 2018 World Cup football betting.

Johor Police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the suspects aged between 17 and 58, were arrested in three raids codenamed Ops Soga Piala Dunia 2018 from June 14 to 19.

He said among the items seized in the raids include laptops, mobile phones, books on the schedules of the football matches, and RM31,196 and SGD$1,052 (RM3099) in cash.

“The bets range from RM100,000 to RM200,000 via www.ms88po.com and www.ag.ccbbet.com,’’ Comm Mohd Khalil said in a press statement released here on Tuesday.

He said police would continue to monitor the illegal gambling activities until the end of the World Cup.

Those found guilty of organising and accepting bets could be charged under the Betting Act 1953. Members of the public found guilty for betting in the World Cup 2018 could also be charged under the same law.
