KUALA LUMPUR: The appointment of Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador (pic) as the new Special Branch director is not unusual, says Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

The Inspector-General of Police said the tenure of previous director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff had ended, thus Abdul Hamid was appointed to replace him.

“He (Mohd Mokhtar) has retired as his contract had ended.

“It is a usual process and he was replaced by Abdul Hamid,” he told a press conference at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman on Friday (May 25).

Abdul Hamid became the new Special Branch director on Wednesday (May 23) following Mohd Mokhtar's retirement.

Asked on Commercial Crimes Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Seri Amar Singh's contract extension, the IGP confirmed that it has been extended as he is still needed to lead the 1MDB investigation.

“I confirm that his contract has been extended,” he said.
