PETALING JAYA: Strong winds and an afternoon storm pelted the Batu Caves temple as preparation work was underway for the upcoming Thaipusam festival.

Sri Maha Mariamman Devasthanam committee chairman Tan Sri R. Nadarajah, when contacted, said the short but strong storm occurred at around 3.30pm on Tuesday (Jan 23).

“The strong winds caused many of the tents which were being set up to be blown all over the place.

“Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident,” he said.

He said immediately after the storm ended, work to set up the tents commenced.

“Everything is in order now,” he added.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department said no injuries were reported.
