MIRI: The Miri Fire and Rescue Department air unit has delivered almost seven tonnes of food aid to flood-hit interior Tatau district in northern Sarawak.

The food aid was airlifted by helicopter from Miri over the past 24 hours in six sorties.

Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said the food aid is for 17 longhouses that were affected by the current floods in Tatau district, located about 250km south of here.

"So far, six sorties have been carried out and more helicopter rounds will be made today," he said on Sunday (Jan 21).

The food aid was arranged by the state welfare authorities and the Miri Fire and Rescue Department was roped in to deliver aid as rural roads had been cut off due to the floods.
