KOTA KINABALU: A search is on for 48-year-old Ariffin Madong, who went missing while fishing near Pulau Matukud on Wednesday.

Ariffin went out to sea at about 2am on Tuesday (Nov 14), and was supposed to return a day after.

However at about 8pm the next day, his friends came across an overturned boat believed to belong to him.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sabah and Labuan director First Admiral Datuk Mohd Zubil Mat Som (pic) said the friends lodged a report soon after, prompting a search for him.

“Various agencies including MMEA, marine police, firemen and the Civil Defence have come together in this search and rescue operation,” he said.

However, there are still no signs of Ariffin.
