PETALING JAYA: Elizabeth Elida Edward and her family of four were fast asleep in their rented house in Kuching. They had no electricity and the only light came from a kerosene lamp in their shared bedroom.
Elizabeth, then two, was sleeping under a mosquito net with her parents. Her seven-year-old sister and five-year-old brother were on a mattress on the wooden floor.
