KUALA LUMPUR: A 21-year-old man has been detained for allegedly insulting the late Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah on social media.
The suspect was arrested at 12.27am at a house in Genting Highlands on Wednesday.
“We believe he had insulted the late Sultan based on a social media post. We also seized a mobile phone and a laptop. The suspect has been remanded for two days,” said Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani in a statement.
Comm Acryl said police are also looking for another man for having committed a similar offence.
“Both cases are being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said.
Comm Acryl advised the public to be more responsible before posting anything on social media.
“Don’t post anything offensive against anyone especially the royal institution and the country’s leaders. Such irresponsible acts might incite tension among the community,” he said.
