PETALING JAYA: The video of a primary school student being bullied by a group of students was taken three years ago in Kedah and the case had been dealt with, Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan said.
Commenting on the video that went viral yesterday, he said the bullies had been punished.
“Making it viral again is harmful to all parties concerned,” he said.
The video first emerged on social media in December 2014.
The almost two-minute clip showed three to four boys in school uniform shoving and kicking the victim who was crying on the classroom floor.
They emptied a waste paper basket on him and covered his head with a plastic bag, while verbally abusing him. A broom was also shoved at his face.
The victim’s cries went unheeded and he almost vomited after being repeatedly kicked.
Alor Setar MIC division Youth chief W. Thiruchandru had, in January 2015, said the incident supposedly happened in September 2014, after the UPSR examination.
Kamalanathan said the ministry should be alerted if the public came across any video of bullying in schools for investigations to be conducted.
“If it is a genuine case, action will be taken,” he said.
