Cops: Ex-Special Branch officer reported missing found safe

KOTA KINABALU: A retired Special Branch officer, who went missing for over 24 hours after dropping off his wife at the Luyang Hospital, has been found.

Kota Kinabalu City police Asst Comm M. Chandra (pic) said that Andrew Wong Hin Kok was found at Kg Sugud in Penampang about 20km from Luyang Hospital.

"He is safe but weak," he said, adding that he would give further details later.

The 77-year-old Wong was reported missing by his daughter Catherine after he failed to be located on Wednesday.

Wong had driven his car to the Luyang hospital here where he dropped his wife at the entrance for outpatient treatment around 10.30am Wednesday. He then drove off to search for parking and that was the last time he was seen.

Wong's wife called their daughter at 2.40pm to pick her up from the hospital as she could not locate her husband and they immediately began searching for him and alerted people through social media.

When contacted at 3.30pm Thursday, Catherine said that her father was being taken to the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters in Karamunsing here.

"All I know he is safe, thank God," she said, adding that the family was on the way to the police station.

It was learned that he was spotted sitting along the road in the area by a villager who alerted the authorities.
