PETALING JAYA: MCA has conducted preliminary discussions with Barisan Nasional about potential candidates for the next general election, but has yet to finalise the list, says party deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
"MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai earlier met Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the matter.
"I am sure Liow will continue to evaluate the performances of these potential candidates. We will still observe them up to the moment we are required to announce the candidates," he said.
Dr Wee was speaking to reporters after a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony between Star Media Group Bhd and Shanghai Media Group at Menara Star here Tuesday.
He was responding to a question on whether MCA had submitted its list of candidates to Najib, following reports that MIC had recently done so.
"No political party can tell you that the list they have now are the same candidates who will stand in the general election. No political party can be sure of that at this moment," Dr Wee said.
He added that it was very normal for a party leader to discuss candidate selection with the Barisan chairman.
"Before we finalise it, we will observe these potential candidates. For those who have been performing well, we will let them continue. For those given high expectations in the beginning but do not perform well, we will replace them with someone else," he said.
