Police detective shot dead in Kedah


PETALING JAYA: A detective from Bukit Aman's D7A division was shot dead when visiting an acquaintance in Changloon in Kedah on Friday night.

Abu Hashim Ismail, 54, was shot seven times by an unknown assailant – three times in the back, and once in his left waist, right waist, chest and stomach.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical officers from Hospital Jitra.

According to a police report, the incident occurred at 10.30pm, while the victim was seated at the porch area of the corner lot house in Napoh and was chatting with his acquaintance, who witnessed the shooting.

Abu Hashim's body has been sent to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar for a post-mortem.

The deceased was attached to Bukit Aman's secret societies, gambling and vice division, and had been on pension leave when he was murdered.

The witness, who is believed to be a relative of the victim, has been detained to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

News of the shooting had earlier gone viral on Facebook, claiming that the officer had been fatally shot four times in the back.
