KOTA KINABALU: Two policemen have been arrested for allegedly asking for a RM2,500 bribe from a man suspected of possessing syabu.
A lance corporal and a corporal aged 32 and 39 respectively, were said to have asked for the bribe on Aug 7 and had supposedly took RM500 as down payment.
The bribe was allegedly as an inducement to release the suspect, who is in his 30s, over investigations into drug possession.
The duo were arrested between 12.10pm and 12.40pm at the Penampang district police office on Tuesday.
According to Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission MACC director Datuk Sazali Salbi here, apart from the RM500 that they allegedly received, the policemen also received RM300 through a bank transaction the next day (Aug 8).
"Both of them are now under remand until Aug 22 to allow investigation into the case," he said.
The remand order on the duo was issued by Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus at the Kota Kinabalu magistrate's court on Wednesday.
