DBKL manager, contractors remanded for alleged bribery

SHAH ALAM: A Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) manager and seven contractors were detained Tuesday over the giving and receiving of bribes.

The suspects, aged between 37 and 61, have been remanded for five days from Wednesday as part of investigations carried out by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

One of the contractors was released after her statement was recorded.

According to an MACC source, the City Hall manager allegedly accepted money from the contractors from 2014 to 2017.

"This was done as inducement to decrease the deductions made on the claim amounts for cleaning contract work carried out by the contractors,'' said the source.

Selangor MACC director Datuk Wan Ramli Wan Abdullah confirmed the arrests.

He said the suspects were detained following the information received from certain parties.

"Investigations have been carried out and it is believed graft-related activities had taken place and we are now initiating further action in line with legal provisions,'' said Wan Ramli.

He also confirmed that one of the seven contractors had been released after her statement had been recorded.
