Cops ready for SEA Games

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is ready for the coming SEA Games, says Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

The Inspector-General of Police said that the force is ready to handle any untoward incident that might occur during the Games as preparations have been made well in advance.

"All personnel are equipped to ensure the safety and security of all during the competition. I hope sports fans can give their full cooperation with the police to ensure this event is a resounding success," he told a press conference after a handing-over ceremony in Bukit Aman on Wednesday.

Asked about the Perak police stepping up security to deal with possible terror threats on National Day, Khalid said that the police are always vigilant for such threats.

"We have taken necessary steps to prepare for any incident and threats that might occur during the SEA Games and on National Day.

However, we expect no problem arising so we urge the people to come out and enjoy the competition," he said.

On the murder of 92-year-old Chinese woman Xiang Lian Jin at a Genting Highlands hotel, Khalid confirmed that the police are on the hunt for South Korean man Sung Kyuk-seok, 57.

"We have alerted security personnel at every entry and exit point in the country to watch out for this man. We believe the murder might have been due to gambling debts. The suspect could not settle the debt and resorted to violence," he said.
