JOHOR BARU: Abd Latif Ibrahim was a 22-year-old cook at an army camp who had to hold back his jubilation when Malaya gained independence from the British in 1957.
Recalling the event from 60 years ago, he said: “My friends and I weren’t regular soldiers. As such, we were not permitted to celebrate because the Majidee Army Camp was run by the British then.
