PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Corruption Watch (MCW) has condemned the actions of politicians whom they say are trying to politicise corruption issues.
MCW president Jais Abdul Karim criticised DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang's statement that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrest of state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh was aimed at undermining the state government in Penang.
"Highly experienced Lim Kit Siang should be more mature and rational in releasing statements and should not making allegations such as this," said Jais in a statement on Saturday.
He said that the MACC's remand was only to investigate and extract more accurate information.
"The MACC is an independent body that is given space to work without political interference," he added.
Jais pointed out that when a Johor state exco member was arrested several months ago, the Johor government gave its full cooperation without any allegations or "baseless statements".
"The Johor state government has continued with a stable government even though the case has been prosecuted in court," he added.
MCW urged all parties in the country to not interfere with MACC's affairs.
"Let them carry out their job without unnecessary pressure," Jais said.
MCW also called on the MACC to sue any party which intentionally issues a false statement or false allegations that could interfere with ongoing investigations.
