PASIR GUDANG: The Johor Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) have seized a tower crane and issued an order to stop all construction work at a site near Gelang Patah following a fatal accident.

Johor unity and human resources committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said that the decision came after a Bangladeshi worker was crashed to death by a hook block at a site in Tanjung Kupang on July 11.

"It seems that each accident at the workplace shows the ineffectiveness of the company's health and safety management," he said during the launch of the state-level Occupational Safety and Health week here on Monday.

He added that the case was one of the 41 fatalities involving machines or fallen objects recorded in the state since 2010.

He also urged employers and workers in the construction sector to take proactive measures to overcome site safety issues.
