Shahrir: MACC probe on FIC due to whistleblowers

KUALA LUMPUR: Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad has warned those involved in corruption within the organisation that they will be exposed by whistleblowers.

He said the latest case involving Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC), which is being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the purchase of a London hotel, was the result of whistleblowers giving information to the authorities.

He added that he was pleased that the MACC was going into "high-gear" in investigating the case against Felda's investment arm

“I welcome the MACC’s investigations into FIC, and Felda will cooperate with the graft busters.

“This is a good development and I believe that the new leads that MACC had received were the work of whistleblowers.

"I want to assure those who expose the corrupt practices within Felda that they will be protected,” Shahrir told reporters at the Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad Hari Raya open house here on Monday.

Shahrir was asked to comment on the raid by MACC at FIC over the purchase of property at inflated prices, resulting in huge losses.

Recently, MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad said he had ordered a thorough investigation into the purchase of the high-end London property by FIC to cover possible elements of corruption or abuse of power.

To a question, Shahrir said the MACC never contacted him about the case after he revealed the anomalies in FIC on Jan 17 and that the board of directors had been ordered to resign over the purchase of the hotel.
