PETALING JAYA: Animal welfare groups are supportive of a proposal to create a rabies immune belt in Sabah and Sarawak but they made clear that any effort to control the stray dog population should be done in a humane way.

Lost Animal Souls Shelter (LASS) founder and president Vignes Chelliah said setting up the immune belt is a good move, as dogs in general are getting a “bad name” for a disease that the vast majority of them do not have or cause.
