SHAH ALAM: Two Malaysian corporate figures – Datuk Seri Nazir Razak and Tan Sri Tony Fernandes – have lent their support for the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk on Aug 27.
The two said the walk will bring Malaysians together in emphasising the message of unity and moderation.
Nazir, who is CIMB Group chairman, said he will take part in the walk to be held at Dataran Kemerdekaan, Shah Alam, this year.
The walk, organised by Ecoworld Development Bhd and Star Media Group Bhd, will be flagged off by Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. It is being held with the cooperation of the Shah Alam City Council.
Nazir took part in the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk last year and found it “heartwarming to see Malaysians of all races coming together”.
“I hope this year will see even more Malaysians taking part, especially with His Royal Highness the Sultan attending,” he said.
Fernandes, who is AirAsia Group CEO, said he was looking forward to the walk.
“The walk is awesome and I want to be part of this event. I will ask Malaysians to join.”
Fernandes said he hoped to find time to walk and “to send home the message that Malaysia belongs to the people”.
“AirAsia has won the World’s Best Airline nine times in a row. We did because we embrace diversity. We celebrate multi-culturalism.
“AirAsia truly embraces the #AnakAnakMalaysia spirit,” he added.
Some 5,000 participants are expected to join the walk. Participants will gather at the venue at 6.30am for the flag-off.
The registration fee for families (two adults plus two children) is RM80 while that for individual adults (18 years and above) is RM40 and RM15 for a child (12 years and below).
Registration for this year’s walk is open until Aug 5 and can be made at http://sites.thestar.com.my/aamwalk/.
Returning for its third consecutive year, the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk is being organised in conjunction with National Day.
The #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign started in 2015.
