Penangpac aborts screening of gay movie

GEORGE TOWN: The screening of a gay film titled ‘Lost in Paradise’ has been called off after drawing criticism from the public.

The film was originally scheduled to be shown at the Performing Arts Centre of Penang (Penangpac) in Straits Quay, Tanjung Tokong, at 8pm yesterday.

It was to be open to “mature audiences” only.

State Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Malik Abul Kassim said he only knew about the plan to screen the movie yesterday.

“I understand that the movie has been cancelled by Penangpac.

“We sent an official letter to them to discuss the planned screening. It was my duty as state religious affairs chairman to do so,” he added.

Earlier in a Facebook posting, Penangpac shared a poster of the movie. However, the post has since been removed.

‘Lost in Paradise’ is a 2011 Vietnamese film directed by Vu Ngoc Dang.
