PETALING JAYA: Newly-appointed Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) acting chairman Tan Sri Sulaiman Mahbob said he will perform to the best of his ability in the new role.
“God willing, with the support of the board, I will discharge the fiduciary duties to the best of my ability in the interests of shareholders and stakeholders,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Sulaiman, 67, was a non-executive director with FGV before the Prime Minister’s Office announced he would be taking over the chairmanship from Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad.
“With reference to my appointment as FGV acting chairman effective today, I would like to record my appreciation to the Minister of Finance Incorporated for the confidence and trust given to me in undertaking this huge responsibility,” he said.
“I would also like to record my utmost appreciation to Isa Samad for his invaluable guidance in steering the company during his chairmanship tenure with the group.
“In this regard, his leadership during the board’s decision to undertake the investigation of the four senior management officers in relation to the long-outstanding debt of Safitex Trading LLC is consistent with the principles of good governance and accountability,” he said.
Sulaiman previously served the Government for more than 38 years in various capacities, including director-general of the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department.
He was also secretary-general of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (2001-2004) and head of secretariat for the National Economic Action Council (1998-2001).
