ALOR SETAR: A homemade pipe bomb and live ammunition were seized from the house of the 41-year-old man who was killed after a shootout with the police in Kampung Weng Dalam, Baling.
Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Asri Yusoff said a Thai woman, in her 30s, believed to be the wife of the deceased, was also arrested when the police raided the home at Kampung Selarong, Pengkalan Hulu, Perak, on Saturday.
“We are trying to determine what the gunman was planning to do with the pipe bomb by questioning the woman. We also found 250g of syabu in the premises.
“Our checks showed that the deceased had three previous cases of involvement in burglaries and criminal intimidation in 1992 and 1995,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Comm Asri added that the man, who died after being shot in the head and chest, was involved in the smuggling of firearms and drugs from a neighbouring country.
“A semi-automatic Norinco pistol and a magazine, 40g of heroin in eight packets and two number plates were found at the scene and car boot.
“He was probably waiting for his drug contact to arrive when the police moved in,” he said.
The Star reported that a Bukit Aman Special Task Force on Organised Crime (Stafoc) team shot a man dead after he opened fire at them at about 4.25am last Saturday near Kampung Weng Dalam.
The team was on an anti-firearm smuggling patrol.
