Forex trader jailed a day, fined for offensive Facebook post

KUALA LUMPUR: An online forex trader was jailed a day and fined RM4,000 for an offensive Facebook post against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Sessions Court Judge Zaman Mohd Noor meted out the sentence against Mohd Nasaruddin Saron, 41, on Monday after he admitted to the charge.

Nasaruddin was accused of intentionally uploading the offensive post on Facebook at about 7.25am on Oct 26, 2016.

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission head of prosecution Mohd Sophian Zakaria said Nasaruddin should not have posted the offensive words and asked the court to impose a jail sentence and fine to serve as a deterrent.

Nasaruddin, in asking for leniency, said he was a first time offender.
