Sword-wielding duo escape with cash and handphones from Sandakan hotel

KOTA KINABALU: Two masked men, one of them armed with a sword, robbed a hotel of RM1,500 and four handphones in Sandakan.

The hotel's 24-year-old receptionist, who was with her younger sister, heard a loud sound outside the hotel just after midnight on Sunday.

Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Azhar Hamin said when the woman went outside to check, a man armed with a samurai sword rushed in and threatened her.

He forced her to hand over the cash box containing money and the handphones as an accomplice entered the reception area.

The receptionist and her sister managed to run into a toilet where they locked themselves in.

After the robbers had left, the women came out and immediately called security guards who were behind the building as well as the police.
