Six men charged with rioting in May 5 altercation at Johor Baru mosque

JOHOR BARU: Six men were charged Thursday in a magistrate's court with rioting over the altercation outside a mosque in Austin Perdana on May 5.

They are lighting programmer Toh Chai Eun, 28, sailor Hazlan Masahat, 55, factory operator Muhamad Akhmarul Naim Amir, 22, Rela members Nor Haszman Hashim, 46, Robert Bajak, 36, and Norfriandika Kusuma Irfandi, 22.

They were alleged to have rioted in a group with intent to cause harm through violence in front of the mosque in Jalan Austin Perdana at about 1.30pm on May 5.

All six men were separately charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code before magistrate Salina Omar on Thursday.

Salina fixed bail at RM1,000 with one surety each and July 17 for the next mention of the case.

DPP Muhammad Mohd Nasir prosecuted the case while all accused were unrepresented.
