KOTA KINABALU: Photos and video clips of a mid-afternoon police operation in Sandakan have gone viral on social media.

The photos and videos show a team of policemen clad in dark clothes and bulletproof vests carrying out the operation.

The policemen, who are believed to be from Bukit Aman, moved in to arrest two people at an open area along the Lebuh Empat road in Sandakan at about 3pm Thursday.

When contacted, Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Mohd Azhar Hamin declined to comment about the operation.

"All I can tell you is that we have arrested some people," he said, adding that any information about the operation should be obtained from Bukit Aman.

Sandakan MP Stephen Wong Tien Fatt said police should clear the air about what had transpired on Thursday afternoon.

“There are so many rumours after the photos and video clips of the arrests went viral over social media. The public should be told what had happened,” Wong added.
