PETALING JAYA: Fifty children went shopping for Hari Raya clothes and shoes at Aeon Quill City Mall in Kuala Lumpur, courtesy of Pandan Puteri Umno.
The children from poor families in the Pandan district were taking part in a Baju Raya contribution programme and breaking of fast event yesterday.
Pandan Puteri Umno has been running the Puteri Peduli campaign every year since 2004.
Puteri Umno vice-chief Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan said each child received RM150 to buy Raya clothes and shoes. They were also given “duit raya”.
Zahida was seen helping nine-year-old Nurul Zurain Aishah Zakri, who was in a stroller due to her disability.
“She was born with lack of oxygen as I encountered some problems while giving birth to her,” said Zurain’s mother, Sabariah Othman.
Mohd Hadid, six, ran around the children’s section accompanied by his mother, who could barely catch up with him.
“This contribution programme helps a lot in reducing our Raya expenses. I’m glad that Hadid got to choose a few new T-shirts and pants,” said Hadid’s mother, who requested anonymity.
Forty Puteri Umno members were also there to help the children with their selection.
