Jobless duo facing the gallows over drug offences

GEORGE TOWN: A jobless man who was nabbed by police during a drug bust in Paya Terubong early this month has been charged with three counts of trafficking in more than 71kg of drugs.

Tan Swee Hin, 51, was charged in a magistrate’s court here yesterday with trafficking in 13.924kg of heroin, 20kg of methamphetamine and 37.3kg of 3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine on May 5 at a flat unit in Tingkat Paya Terubong 5, Paya Terubong.

It was reported that Penang police scored one of their biggest victories this year by seizing drugs worth RM6.8mil from the flat at 10.30am on May 5.

Tang Chin Tart, 52, who is also unemployed, was charged in the same court with two counts of trafficking in 2.64kg of heroin and 1.825kg of methamphetamine in a house in Lebuh Sungai Pinang 4 here at 10.15pm on May 8.

No plea was recorded and no bail offered to both accused who face the mandatory death penalty if convicted.

Magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid fixed July 19 to mention both cases.
