KOTA TINGGI: The amputated legs of schoolboy Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi, who was allegedly tortured to death, have been exhumed for further examination.

The deceased’s mother Felda Wani Ahmad, 40, said the family was informed about the matter on Thursday morning.

“We were told that the legs will be taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for an autopsy,” she said.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the exhumation was necessary as Mohamad Thaqif’s cause of death had yet to be ascertained.

Mohamad Thaqif died after both his legs were amputated due to a bacterial infection following alleged abuse by an assistant warden at Madrasah Tahfiz Al Jauhar.

In Kuala Lumpur, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said forensic pathologists investigating the case had asked for the amputated legs to be exhumed to help determine the cause of death.

“When they performed the amputation, they did not expect Mohamad Thaqif to die,” he added.
