2m-long python caught in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: Civil Defence officials caught a 2m-long python at a house in Sandakan on Friday.

The python weighing about 35kg is the third one to be caught in the district in about a week. The first was in a public park on May 11.

Sandakan Civil Defence officer Lieutenant Ahmad Roslan Mohd Kamel said they received a call from the house owner, a 55-year-old man, after he noticed the reptile underneath the wooden floor at about 10.10am.

"After reaching the house at Kg Bahagia, Batu Sapi, our officials used a special snake catching tool to get the reptile out,” he said.

He said his team took nearly 16 minutes to get the snake safely into a sack.

No one was injured in the incident.

Ahmad Roslan said the snake was released into its natural habitat away from housing areas.
