Two lives lost in head-on collision of motorcycles

BALIK PULAU: Two motorcyclists died when their machines collided in Jalan Sungai Pinang, Kampung Sungai Rusa, near here.

Muhammad Faris Shahmi Suhailee, 20, was riding from Teluk Bahang towards Balik Pulau town when he collided with Nazirul Haziq Abdul Hak, 21, who came from the opposite direction.

It is believed that Nazirul crashed into Muhammad Faris when he tried to overtake a car.

Police said both men died of head injuries in the 11.50pm incident on Wednesday.

In another accident, a 47-year-old man died of a heart attack after his car collided with a motorcycle in Bandar Baru Air Itam.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said Tio Beng Hwa was found unconscious after his car crashed into the road divider following the collision with the motorcycle in the 11.20am incident yesterday.

“He was sent to the hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival at the emergency ward at about noon,” ACP Anuar said, adding that the motorcycle rider sustained minor injuries.

ACP Anuar said a post-mortem revealed that Tio died of a heart attack.

In another development, three fishermen who were lost at sea were rescued and brought to safety.

Two of them were found on Wednesday at 11pm on their boat three nautical miles from Teluk Bahang.

The third fisherman was found drifting in the sea some distance from the boat at 1.45pm the following day, said Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan yesterday.

“He was wearing his life jacket but was weak from drifting at sea for more than 36 hours,” said Supt Anbalagan, adding that the man was sent to Penang Hospital for treatment.

All three went fishing near Pulau Bidan on Tuesday. It is believed the boat engine later stalled.

The two on the boat were Mazali Hamzah, 46, from Teluk Bahang and Mohamad Tuah Abd Rahman, 42, from Taiping, while the one found drifting was Ismail Omar, 52, from Teluk Bahang.
