BUKIT MERTAJAM: A technician who allegedly killed his elder brother last Sunday has been charged with manslaughter.
Lim Liang Haw, 48, was charged yesterday with causing the death of Poh Haw, 59, in front of his house in Sama Gagah, Permatang Pauh, near here, at about 7.30am.
He pleaded not guilty to the offence, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years or a fine or both upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Kamaliza Md Zin proposed bail at RM20,000, but defence counsel R.S.N. Rayer asked for bail to be set between RM7,000 and RM8,000.
Rayer told the court that prior to the alleged incident, Liang Haw had lodged several police reports claiming that he feared for his life and his family’s safety as Poh Haw had frequently caused disturbances in front of his house.
Magistrate Jamaliah Abd Manap set bail at RM10,000 and told Liang Haw to report to the nearest police station every month. He posted bail.
She fixed July 17 for mention and submission of documents.
The Star reported that an argument broke out between the two outside the house at 7.30am on Sunday.
A scuffle then ensued leading to the man’s death.
