KOTA KINABALU: A 56-year-old man was stabbed to death by his son, who then turned the knife on himself.
Ali Nordin died on the spot while his son is fighting for his life following a fight at their house in Kampung Sungai Gading 1 Wakuba along Jalan Apas in Tawau at about 3.10am yesterday.
Tawau police chief Asst Comm Fadil Marsus said a misunderstanding between the father and son triggered the altercation that ended with the suspect stabbing his father on the neck.
“We believe the suspect was on drugs,” he told reporters, adding that the suspect worked as a garbage collector in Tawau.
He said the son, who knifed himself in the abdomen, suffered severe blood loss and was being treated at the Tawau district hospital.
Police seized a parang and a knife believed to have been used as the murder weapons as well as a canned drink and a handphone.
ACP Fadil said the suspect was immediately taken to the hospital while his father was already dead when the police arrived.
Police are investigating the motive for the incident that has been classified as murder.
