Man killed, another hurt at 'killer stretch' in KK

KOTA KINABALU: A self-employed man was killed while another sustained serious injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded and hit a tree along the coastal road not far from here early Friday.

Amiljon Musid, 40, who was driving the vehicle, was killed on the spot following the impact of the crash while his 51-year-old passenger suffered serious bodily injuries.

City police chief Asst Comm M. Chandra said the duo were believed to be heading to Kepayan not far from here when Amiljon lost control of the vehicle.

"They skidded off the double-lane road upon reaching a corner and slammed into a tree on a road divider," he said in a statement here Friday.

ACP Chandra said Amiljon's body has been brought to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for postmortem while the other victim is receiving treatment for his injuries.

This stretch of road had claimed many lives over the years, with the most recent being that of chemical engineer Michelle Eliza Johnny, 26, who was killed after she lost control of her vehicle and slammed into a tree on her way home following a gathering with friends on Feb 25 this year.
