Alleged middleman in 'cop protection service' case remanded

PUTRAJAYA: A 32-year old man, believed to be one of the middlemen involved in the "protection service" given by some senior cops in Melaka has been remanded.

He will be under the custody of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for six days to help with investigations.

Magistrate Nadia Othman allowed for the man to be held until May 24.

He is the 11th suspect arrested in the anti-graft body's investigation into the alleged involvement of senior cops who gave "protection" to gambling operators and massage parlours in the state.

Among those arrested are district police chiefs of Melaka Tengah and Jasin, two assistant superintendents, two inspectors and a corporal.

Two middlemen and an illegal gambling den operator are also being investigated by the MACC.
