Religious teacher's remand extended in molest probe

KAJANG: The remand for a religious primary school teacher in a molest case involving six male students has been extended.

Magistrate's court registrar Sharifah Fazilah Zulkifli on Monday allowed the application to extend the remand for the 29-year-old teacher from a school in Bandar Baru Bangi until Thursday.

On Friday, police obtained a four-day remand order on the teacher after he was arrested.

The incident was highlighted after the father of a 12-year-old boy lodged a police report on May 10.

It was reported that the boy told his father that the teacher had touched his penis while he was reading.

Since then, it is believed that five others have come forward alleging incidents of molest by the male teacher.

The reports were lodged by parents and the school's parent-teachers association.

The case is being investigated for assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage a person's modesty under Section 354/377D of the Penal Code.
