PETALING JAYA: Heavy rains and gushing winds over an hour have caused flash floods in Klang.

The Sungai Rasau Interchange near the Aeon Bukit Raja shopping mall was in knee-deep water.

PlusTrafik on Twitter said Monday that flash floods blocked the left lane before the Sungai Rasau toll heading towards iCity.

A journalist Mei Mei Chu said traffic did not move for 30 minutes.

According to Chu, the rainfall that began at 3.15pm, had resulted in a 20km traffic jam.

Chu said cars were seen stopping along the emergency lane on the flyover above the interchange to take photos of the floodwaters.

"There are also no emergency services whatsoever and the plastic barricades by the road are floating," she said from the scene.

Pictures taken by Chu also showed that a white BMW was stranded in the knee-deep water.

At 4.45pm, Chu said people got out from their cars to redirect traffic away from the affected area.

"Cars made a u-turn in that one-way street area to get on the flyover heading to the Sungai Rasau toll towards the federal highway," she added.

The Department of Irrigation and Drainage official twitter handle InfoBanjir alerted the public that the Klang River in Bandar Klang had exceeded its threshold level of 2.41m by 0.01m at 9pm on Sunday.
