PETALING JAYA: A burst water pipe along Jalan Sierramas Barat in Sungai Buloh has cut off water to more than 280 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Klang and Shah Alam.
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) corporate communications chief Amin Lin Abdullah said the firm’s system alerted it of the leak at around 6am yesterday.
“When our officials reached the the leak, water was already pouring out,” he said, adding that the 203cm pipe was the main line connecting the water treatment plant to households and businesses in these areas.
“In the meantime, Syabas will mobilise all its water tankers to the affected areas,” he said, adding that requests could also be made for relief water supply by sending an SMS to 15300 (Type Tankername and address).
Checks by The Star after the incident yesterday afternoon revealed that a strong current of water was still flowing out from the area around the burst pipe.
The main repair work only started once the water was drained.
Repair work was completed at about 7.45pm and water supply was being restored in stages at press time.
Amin said premises located on higher ground and at the end of the water distribution systems would take longer time to get their supply.
