IPOH: Police have arrested a nanny at Taman Meru after a eight-month-old baby boy died due to internal head injuries on Thursday, said Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong.
On Wednesday, a paediatrician from Hospital Raja Perempuan Bainun (HRPB) lodged a report at the Sungai Senam police station claiming that a baby suffered internal head injuries due to contact with hard objects.
The parents brought the baby to the hospital after they found him unconscious when they fetched him from the daycare centre in Meru.
On Thursday, at around 6.30am, the baby was pronounced dead and based on all these information, police arrested the nanny, aged 36, to assist in the investigations.
"Based on our investigations, the baby was fine when the parents sent him to daycare centre at 7am on April 19.
"But he was in an unconscious state when they took him from the centre. They've been sending the baby to the daycare centre for more than three months.
"Based on post-mortem reports, the baby died due to internal head injuries caused by contact with hard object," said Asst Comm Sum to reporters at the Ipoh police headquarters here on Friday.
The suspect, who is married, will be remanded until April 27 and the case is being investigated as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
