MALACCA: Four students at a rehabilitation school for girls have pleaded not guilty to a charge of inserting a deodorant bottle into the vagina of a younger student.

Eighteen-year-olds Norsyazwana Azmi and Nur Iman Nina Deri, as well as Maizatul Hanissa Abdullah and Norlihani Mohd Zairi, both 19, claimed trial before Sessions Court judge Ahmad Sazali Omar.

The four had allegedly inserted the bottle into the 17-year-old at the Melor Hostel in Sekolah Tunas Bakti, Tanjung Kling, at about 5pm on April 9.

They were charged under Section 377CA of the Penal Code for “having sexual connection” with the victim by introduction of an object into her vagina.

The offence carries a penalty of up to 30 years in jail.

DPP Siti Ruvina Mohd Rawi asked that bail be set at RM30,000 each and told the court yesterday that one of the accused would be leaving school next month.

Counsel for the girls, Andrew Lourdes, said his clients were from poor families and that the students would be affected if they could not post bail and had to stay in Sg Udang prison.

He asked for a lower amount.

The court set bail at RM15,000 each and fixed May 17 for mention.

All the students were out on bail later in the day.
